Just a start

I am not rich. I am not a racist. I am not a member of the NRA. I am a man born with no "brand name", no pedigree, and no trust fund. My teen-aged parents enjoyed sex, drugs, violence, and rock and roll. I lived in slums, with vermin and pestilence. I knew the taste of drugs and alcohol before my teen years. I had unprotected, underage, premarital sex. I barely made it out of high school. I was kicked out of my home, and lived with whoever would take me in. I had no faith in God, and wondered why there was no one to take care of me. Shouldn't the government have taken care of me? Should I not be a good little liberal?

I then moved away from my home town, got clean, got a job, found God, went to college, got a degree, got an even better job, got married, had kids, got a house, got an even better job. And I have me and God to thank for that. I have a good marriage, wonderful children, I believe in the sanctity of life, that charity is more important than welfare, and that even the biggest of corporations can be good citizens.

I suppose that there are a millions of people who can relate to my story, yet I so rarely hear it coming from the mouths of those in my party. Why do so many from impoverished backgrounds choose the democrats, when the thought of having the government in my business seems so unpleasant and intrusive?

I was, and feel I always will, have elements of that angry young man within me, and one of the key factors for me then was that I did not appreciate people telling me what to do or what to believe. So why would I ever want MORE government intervention in my affairs? Why do so many idealistic and passionately individualistic young people vote in such a way that with time will erode their ability to remain punks, hippies, artists, or whatever they are at that moment? In exchange for some "free" health care, funded abortions, government housing, government educations, and eventually a government job, would they give up the right to be "rebellious"?

If you vote to expand government, you cannot be a revolutionary, you cannot be in favor of democracy, you cannot slap an Anarchy sticker on your backpack. You are NOT an individual, you are a follower and you are destroying America.
